Talented musicians from across the globe, including Africa’s best, were in attendance at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The night was full of celebrations for many Africans, from music wins to iconic red-carpet looks. Words: Gene Sibeko
Gold status host
South Africa’s prince of entertainment Trevor Noah did an outstanding job with his opening speech. He poked some fun at some of Hollywood’s A-list celebrity musicians in attendance. Noah’s wit and charm won over the crowd and guests were in stitches.
A nod to the nominees and winners
A well-deserved congratulations to Burna Boy, Eddy Kenzo, Tems, Rocky Dawuni, Zakes Bantwini, Nomcebo Zikode, Wouter Kellerman, Angélique Kidjo and Yola for their phenomenal work that was nominated. It is an incredible achievement to be recognised among the world’s greatest.
By the end of the evening, the nominees gathered 2 wins for:
Best Melodic Rap Performance | Future, Drake and Tems
Best Global Music Performance | the trio Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini, and Nomcebo Zikode
It would have been interesting, however, to have seen Burna Boy’s chart-topping Love, Damini album contending in other categories, especially the hit ‘Last, Last’, a global anthem throughout 2022.
